9 Most Disliked Videos on Youtube ( Reasons to Hate Them)

Independent filmmakers, amateurs, professionals, businesses, moms, teens, all flock to YouTube to get themselves heard and seen. No other platform has encouraged independent video production like YouTube. It has brought out a content generator from every household.  YouTube is the largest video sharing platform worldwide. But, not everything on YouTube is great. Like in every media, substandard content is easily found and mediocrity prevails here as well.

While the views and likes spur us further, dislikes tend to pull us down. That, however, may not be entirely true. What’s ironical is that the most disliked videos on YouTube are also the most viral ones. Blame it on humans’ proclivity for absurdity or the inescapable exposure to World Wide Web, the most hated videos continue to be the most popular too. So, here we are with our list of the most disliked YouTube Videos of all time.

Most Disliked Videos on Youtube – Complete List

1. Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’

Just Bieber was spotted on YouTube and everything else is history. But, as the irony unfolded for this pop-sensation, he is also credited with the most disliked video on the same platform that made his glorious career. Baby, uploaded 8 years ago in February 2010 continues to be the most disapproved video on YouTube. As of today, it has nearly 1.8 billion views and 8 million as many dislikes as likes. Well, the likes and dislikes may have leveled now, thanks to ‘beliebers’, Bieber’s I-will-never-stop-loving-you fans, there was once a time when the dislike count was twice as much the likes.

So, why do we love to hate Bieber so much when he continues to shatter sales records? Well, many experts like to call him talent-less celebrity and the others owe it to his unresolved issues with the press and almost frequent onscreen meltdowns. Speaking of ‘Baby’, many consider the song itself pretty disastrous. Everything screams of ‘cliche’ in the song. It’s one of those cringe-worthy songs that never fail to be catchy and yet continue to annoy you every time you listen to them. There’s another one like that called ‘Friday’ by Rebecca Black, with which we will get acquainted in a short while as it is also one of the most disliked YouTube videos.

2. Ghostbusters (2016) Trailer By Sony Pictures Entertainment

Ghostbusters has been a pretty successful franchise. But, when Sony Pictures Entertainment released the official trailer of the 2016 movie in March 2016, little did they know the video will go on to become the most disliked on YouTube. As of today, the video has nearly 45 million views, a little over 300,000 likes and a whopping 1 million dislikes. I have watched this two and a half minute video many times over and still believe nothing about the quality that’s worthy of such hatred. By no means it’s an exceptional trailer. In fact, I didn’t even watch the movie. But, there’s plenty of mediocrity around already so why this video?

It did not take me long to figure out why (honestly it was all over the internet too). The dislikes are the reflection of what is still quite wrong about the world we live in. This latest Ghostbusters is an all-female cast and it did not go well with the misogynists lot that still prevails in our society. I wonder if Charlie’s Angles would have met the same fate if it had released in the YouTube era.

3. Rick Perry’s Strong

When the US Presidential Elections were round the corner in 2012, the Republican Party was clueless as to who they will field as their presidential candidate. The then Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, took it upon himself to promote himself as the most viable presidential candidate. In that attempt, he uploaded a YouTube video in December 2011, in which he clearly expressed his dislike for gays, religious superiority of Christianity over other religions, and other biases. He portrayed himself as a reformer who would bind the entire nation with faith if they choose to elect him as the next president. Needless to say, it was a monumental failure. Thousands of people came out against his intolerant, hateful video, so much so that his PR people had to disable comment on the video. As of now, it has probably the highest views to dislike ratio: 863,000 dislikes against 9.6 million views. Looks like the United States wasn’t just yet ready for such jingoistic horseplay.

4. Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball

It seems the mediocre music vies for more dislikes than any other type of content. This is why the music videos are the most disliked among all. If Bieber’s Baby wasn’t enough, Miley Cyrus joined the bandwagon too with her Wrecking Ball that has attracted more than a million dislikes. But, what’s noteworthy is that the video has been viewed nearly a billion times and has over 4 million likes as well. So, it can’t be that bad at all after all! Or is it? Well, that’s too subjective. But, a question that begs the answer is – Cyrus was a celebrity as it is and she did not have to be a YouTube sensation; so why did she come up with a risque, nearly soulless, almost pornographic song on this platform?

5. Rebecca Black’s Friday

So, what comes after Friday? Saturday, weekend, right? Well, these are some of the questions that Friday by Black tries to answer and then we wonder why it got millions of dislikes. Friday has been viewed over a hundred million times and has over 3M dislikes against the paltry 770K likes. Nevertheless, however cringe-worthy pop number Friday may be, it made Black an instant YouTube sensation. This most disliked video on youtube was uploaded over 5 years ago and Black’s channel’s subscription count has only grown bigger. The reason why we hated this song so much is that it has absolutely meaningless lyrics with no substance in the content at all

6. Gangnam Style by Psy

Gangnam Style was uploaded to YouTube in July 2012 and since then it has shattered all the YouTube records. It even exceeded the YouTube view counter limit and the engineers had to re-program to accommodate the number of views it got. As of today, the video has been viewed more than 3 billion times. It is the most successful YouTube video of all time. Yet, it makes it to the list of most disliked videos as well. Gangnam Style has 1 million dislikes. But, I believe that should not be the indicator of its quality. It’s just the law of average taking its natural course. Compared to its number of views and a staggering 13 million likes, 1 million easily fades in comparison. But, technically, that’s still one of the highest number of dislikes. This is why this video is on our list.

7. ‘Can this video get 1 million dislikes?’ by PewDiePie

With nearly 60 million subscribers, PewDiePie is one of the most successful YouTube channels. On December 24, 2016 the channel uploaded a satirical video alluding to some of the cringe-worthy videos that have received huge number of dislikes and are yet the most viewed. In this video, PewDiePie is actually urging its viewers and subscribers to give him more dislikes so that the video can have 1 million dislikes. No surprise the title of the video is also asking for the same. Looks like he got way more than he asked for. At the time of writing this article, the video has already attracted 3 million dislikes. And, PewDiePie is certainly correct in his assessment that dislikes lead to more views as there are more than 12 million.

8. Official Call of Duty®: Infinite Warfare Reveal Trailer

Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game franchise. They have sold millions of copies of their various installment. Every year, they come up with a flagship videogame for all the major platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, Windows PC, Mac and Nintendo. Call of Duty games have been well liked. However, it seems the last couple of their releases have lacked a compelling storyline and have failed to engage the gamers. They are focusing a great deal on sci-fi, futuristic warfare and departing away from the realism. Infinite Warfare Reveal Trailer has more than 3 Million dislikes against the meagre 585K likes and nearly 4 million views. I have watched the trailer several times and in my opinion it is not stimulating at all.

9. Anaconda by Nicki Minaj

Looks like twerking, gyrating and low squatting gets you far, but also puts you on the hate list of many. This video by Nicki Minaj has a million dislikes at this time and deservedly so. The lyrics are tawdry and the treatment of the video is what one would like to call quintessential kitsch. What’s surprising is that while it has 1 million dislikes, it also has thrice as much likes. And, the vide is an absolute success with more than 700 million views. Makes you wonder what the world has come to? Seems PewDiePie was actually right in saying that more dislikes means more success. Well, let’s just hope things get better in the future
